La psychoéducation consiste à faire l'évaluation des difficultés d'adaptation d'une personne, dans le but d'améliorer son fonctionnement au quotidien.

Psychoeducation consists of evaluating an individual’s difficulties of adaptation, in order to improve their daily functioning. The psychoeducator uses the intervention plan to guide their clientele through challenges and objectives that will be set to motivate their psychosocial evolution. This professional can work with different age groups, different clienteles, and different issues. Each professional is free to use different approaches to allow appropriate rehabilitation for their clients. The choice of approach is usually justified by the evidence associated with the types of interventions that are effective in the face of a specific adjustment difficulty. Intervention in the present moment characterizes psychoeducation, since it will not dwell on the events of the past, it will rather examine the present, in regards to allowing a future more adapted for their clients. Values associated with good competences and know-how are at the forefront of psychoeducational intervention.

Here are some examples of difficulties psychoeducation can help you with:

  • Anxious and depressive manifestations.
  • Any uncomfortable relationship patterns: conflict, impulsiveness, social withdrawal, embarrassment, etc.
  • Management and expression of emotions.
  • Adaptation to situations such as separation, the birth of a child, the mourning of a loved one, etc.
  • Support for families: fears, relational issues, questions related to the child’s developmental stages and the various possible educational practices, difficulties of behavior in children, crises or family conflicts.

Psychoeducation is a profession governed by a professional order. The Order of Psychoeducators of Quebec (OPPQ) requires from its professionals a university education at the graduate level: a master’s degree. Upon completion of the studies, the OPPQ ensures that each member pursues training in the areas of intervention that interests them, with the aim of offering the best possible care to the clients.

For me, psychoeducation is the touching encounter of children, adolescents, families and adults who, through their confidence, give me access to their vulnerabilities, but also to the greatness of their determination to do so. face. The very nature of my profession has brought me a lot of challenges and questions on a personal and professional level. In doing so, I started to take an interest in the concept of well-being, especially with adults who wanted to find a greater level of satisfaction and pleasure in their life. Psychoeducational monitoring has therefore become for me a way of supporting adults in understanding their personal, family, professional and / or social situation and in identifying concrete actions in order to update their full potential on a daily basis.
